Eagles' Knoblauch wins Clovis West Shootout title

Clovis West's Michael Knoblauch, ranked 18th in the nation, upset Clovis' No. 4-ranked Jonas Gaytan 6-4 in the 126-pound final in one of the marquee individual matchups of the Clovis West Shootout wrestling tournament.

Knoblauch's victory was one of two individual titles for Clovis West on Saturday and among the eight turned in by area wrestlers. Chris Garcia won at 145 pounds for the Golden Eagles, with titles also going to Selma's Chris Cisneros (106), Clovis North's Austin Flores (182), Buchanan's Eric An (220), and Clovis' Jason Ladd (152), Matt Weiss (195) and Nick Nevills (285).

Ladd, No. 3 in the state at 145 pounds, plowed through a division that featured three other state-ranked opponents in Paso Robles' Kevan Garcia (No. 7 at 145), Clovis West's Tyler Zimmer (No. 6 at 152) and Laguna Hills' Wyond Mills (No. 5 at 152).

The day's other highlight match saw national No. 4-ranked Ryan Millhof of Collins Hill-Ga. defeat No. 5 Ronnie Bresser of Henley-Ore. at 120 pounds.

Boys soccer

Joshua McCarley scored seconds before the final whistle to lift Clovis (2-13) to a 3-2 nonleague victory Monday against Hoover (1-2-3).
