A parolee was arrested early Sunday after leading sheriff's deputies on a chase through central Fresno, a sheriff's spokesman said Monday.

The suspect, driving a truck stolen from the city of Fresno, sped away from deputies, who tried to stop him near Shields and Palm avenues about 1 a.m., spokesman Chris Curtice said.

After a pursuit that lasted about 20 minutes, deputies used spike strips to stop the the car near Clovis and Donner avenues.

After the man ignored orders to get out of the truck, several beanbag shotgun rounds were fired to shatter the back window, Curtice said. He was then taken into custody.
