A report by a Clovis resident of hearing a window breaking, seeing a suspicious man in his neighbor's backyard and hearing a shot fired Thursday afternoon brought the SWAT team, Fresno County sheriff's helicopter, an armored vehicle and other law enforcement units to the 1900 block of San Jose Avenue.

The neighbor told police that the suspicious man fired a shot in his direction and then yelled into the home "come out," which led officers to believe that an accomplice might be inside, police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said.

The residents of the home were away during the incident, which began just after 1:45 p.m. and ended at 6:20 p.m.

The SWAT team used a robot to enter the home to check for suspects, Stoll-Lee said.

The SWAT officers followed the robot, room to room, throughout the house to make sure it was cleared.

They did not find anyone inside but did find a number of guns laid out on a bed.

Police believe that one or more burglars may have been in the process of trying to steal weapons from the home, she said.
