Sunbirds earn regional soccer honors
Fresno Pacific's Paul Islas and coach Jaime Ramirez are the National Christian College Athletic Association West Region soccer Player and Coach of the Year.
The Sunbirds (16-4) won the regional championship and next Wednesday as the top seed face McMurry University of Abilene, Texas, in the opening round of the national tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
Islas' 20 goals are two short of breaking Ramirez's school single-season record.
Forward Alvaro Nogales, midfielder Fabricio Nazare, defender Ivan Mirkovic and women's midfielder/forward Jae Slocum also earned All-Region honors.
Fresno State sweeps Air Force
Korrin Wild had 10 kills, Barbara Alcantara 33 assists and Cecilia Agraz and Marissa Brand 12 digs each as Fresno State swept visiting Air Force in a Mountain West Conference match.
The Bulldogs (17-13, 8-7) won 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. The Falcons are 9-20 and 3-12.

Fresno State junior Hannah Prigge is the Mountain West diver of the week.
Prigge posted an NCAA-qualifying score of 243.75 while placing fourth at the Phil Hansel Invitational in Houston.
Fresno State unveils golf additions
Fresno State formally announced the signings of Clovis West High's Laura Scrivner and Sandra Livas of Mansfield (Texas) to its women's golf team.
Scrivner was second at the North Area Championships with a 70. Livas of Monterrey, Mexico, won the girls 15-18 title at the Texas Junior Golf Tour Championship.
