A Clovis family returned home Tuesday evening to find their home ransacked and one of their dogs dead, police Cpl John Willow said.

Clovis Police officers received a call of a burglary on the 1700 block of North Carolina Avenue about 6:30 p.m.

While searching through their home, the residents discovered one of their two dogs dead in the back yard. Willow said the dog was small, like a Yorkie terrier, and had either been kicked or hit with an object.

The family is still learning the extent of the losses in their home.
