A Fresno State student who also is a candidate for the Fresno Unified Board of Trustees received the Tax Fighter of the Year award Thursday from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
Daniel Harrison, 21, is a senior studying economics and political science. Harrison said he found out about five days ago that he would receive the award. Harrison is running against incumbent Janet Ryan for the school board's Area 6 seat.
The award was announced at a news conference held in conjunction with an event opposing Prop. 30, the tax initiative backed by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Harrison, president of Fresno State College Republicans, recently debated campus Democrats over the Prop. 30.
