EYES ON THE UNDEFEATED

After two months of football, just two Central Section teams remain unbeaten: Liberty-Madera Ranchos and Clovis North, both at 7-0. AJ Leon scored three touchdowns to power the Hawks, The Bee's No. 1 team in D-V, past Sierra 21-0 on Friday. The Broncos, meanwhile, are the section's No. 2 overall team and blasted Clovis East 40-0 Friday, potentially putting the Broncos in position to be No. 1 when The Bee's rankings come out Tuesday.

DRILLERS NEARLY LOSE AGAIN

Bakersfield, a week after suffering a huge blow in its quest for a state bowl berth, nearly lost for a second straight week, but Parker Campbell made a 26-yard field goal with less than a minute to go against Independence and No. 4 Bakersfield held on for 31-28 victory at Griffith Field. Independence trailed 21-0 at halftime before tying the score 28-28 on a 41-yard TD pass by Preston Hodges with 2:35 left in the game.
