The Buzz
Buchanan, Clovis, Clovis West and Liberty all traveled to Las Vegas last weekend for the 48-team Durango Classic, with the latter emerging as the most successful of the Central Section contingent. They placed 10th overall after losing to 'Iolani-Honolulu 25-22, 26-22 in the final of the Silver Division. That effort, coupled with a 3-4 run at Durango by Clovis West, leads to a swap of those schools for the top two spots in this week's rankings. And that sets the stage for this week's marquee matchup: No. 2 Clovis West at No. 1 Liberty at 6 p.m. Thursday in a clash sure to affect playoff seedings in November. "I'm excited to finally see Liberty," Clovis West coach Rhonda DeRuiter said. "A lot of times it's about matchups, so it will be really good to know what we have to get better at over the next couple of months."
