A Fresno man who accidentally fired a World War II rifle into his neighbor's patio fence has been arrested on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, police reported.
The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near Clovis and Tulare avenues in southeast Fresno about 5:30 p.m. Police Sgt. Pete Boyer said the 31-year-old man was cleaning his M1 rifle when it discharged a high-velocity .30-06 round into the fence.
No one was injured. The rifle was seized by officers. The rifle was one of three confiscated by officers in the city's southeast district. Also booked into evidence was a sawed-off shotgun discovered by police during a probation search in the 4200 block of East White Avenue about 5 p.m. A 31-year-old man at the residence was arrested on charges of possessing the weapon and methamphetamine packaged for sale.
Boyer said officers investigating a domestic violence incident in the 400 block of South Maple Avenue just before 9 p.m. seized a .32-caliber semi-automatic pistol from the husband of the victim, who was arrested on charges of making criminal threats and assault with a deadly weapon.
