VOLLEYBALL

Buchanan, ranked third in the Central Section by The Bee, avenged a first-round playoff defeat last season, getting 13 kills and six digs from Emma Gasman and nine kills from Taylor Mounts in a 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 win over Bullard on Tuesday.

Rachael Schaefer had 17 kills and Katelyn Anderson added 12 as El Diamante, ranked third in the Central Section's Division II by The Bee, topped Hoover 25-17, 25-21, 27-25. The Patriots, third in D-III, received 10 kills from Meranda Watkins.

Clovis rode a trio of double-digit-kill-producing hitters in Montana Lowe (15), Julianna Martinez (13) and Maddie Ogawa (12) to a 32-30, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23 win over Sanger.

In an intracity matchup, Reedley received 17 kills and six blocks from Carissa Arias in a 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22 victory against Immanuel.

Alyssa Binion-Luttrell had 10 kills as Edison swept Liberty-Madera Ranchos 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Alli O'Banion had 15 kills while Emelee Croninger added 21 assists and seven blocks as Dos Palos beat Chowchilla 25-20, 25-21, 14-25, 25-22.

Third-year varsity program Minarets had Bre Cairns hit nine kills and Taylor Meyer dish 24 assists to go with eight aces as the Mustangs -- ranked No. 2 in D-V by The Bee -- beat Tranquillity 25-6, 25-10, 21-25, 25-9.

GIRLS TENNIS

In a clash of section Top 10 teams, Bullard got a singles win from Claire Malley and in doubles from Malley and Madison Mennucci as the No. 3 Knights downed No. 8 Clovis 6-3.

Defending section D-V champion Liberty-Madera Ranchos has won 22 straight matches dating to last season, riding singles and doubles wins from Annie Erickson to an 8-1 victory over Sierra in a North Sequoia League opener.
