Events held on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the Valley today include:
- Eleventh annual California Memorial 9/11 observance at Schneider Electric (formerly Pelco), starting at 8:30 a.m. at Pontiac Way between Ashlan and Dakota avenues, Clovis. Ceremony includes placement of wreaths, 21-gun salute, flyover and more.
- Mariposa's Regional 9-11 Memorial will be dedicated at 6 p.m. at the Art Park. The dedication comes after more than two years of planning, fundraising and construction. A flag-raising will be followed by a flyover, "God Bless America" performed by the Grizzly Marching Band and comments from public officials. The memorial includes a sculpture crafted from four steel I-beams recovered from the rubble pile of the World Trade Center.
- The Fresno VA Hospital will unveil at 10 a.m. the "Heroes Showcase," a collection of military memorabilia including medals, uniforms, photographs and other items donated by VA patients. The items will be displayed in the hospital lobby thanks to funding from the Fresno Regional Foundation. The display will be available to the public Monday through Friday, free of charge.
