Liberty appears to be as good as advertised, as tournament MVP Haylee Roberts led the Patriots on a 7-0 run through the Clovis Volleyball Challenge, defeating Buchanan 25-18, 25-18 in the final. Liberty also beat Central Section opposition in Lemoore, Clovis East, Bullard, Central and Central Valley Christian without dropping a game en route to the title. Only Central scored as many as 21 points against the Patriots. ... Defending D-I champion Clovis West also appears to be as strong as ever after placing second at the Spikefest I tournament in Milpitas on Saturday. The Golden Eagles and Patriots meet Sept. 20 in Bakersfield. ... Sierra Pacific, Hanford's newest school in its third varsity season, is off to a blazing start. The Golden Bears went 6-0 to win the Caruthers Raisin Harvest Invitational, receiving 46 kills along the way from Rafaela Macias.
