About 700 motorists were cited for speeding and other violations in the past two weeks during a Fresno police operation aimed at ensuring safety in school zones.

The operation -- called No Recess for Safety -- was conducted Aug 15-31.

Police issued 311 citiations for speeding in school zones and 392 citations for various other violations. In addition, officers impounded 34 vehicles because motorists did not have valid driver's licenses.

Officers will continue to monitor zones around campuses throughout the school year, police said.
