FRESNO GRIZZLIES 4, RENO ACES 3, 12 INNINGS
Play on: Brett Pill's walk-off home run in the 12th inning Tuesday night before 4,490 gave Fresno a 4-3 victory over Reno at Chukchansi Park. Pill earlier tied it with a solo homer in the eighth.
Bonser away: Fresno starter Boof Bonser hit his first career home run -- off top prospect Trevor Bauer, no less -- to put the Grizzlies ahead 2-1 in the fifth. It was the first home run for a Fresno pitcher at home since Kevin Pickford (Clovis West High) in 2003.
Early entertainment: The couple of dozen or so fans who entered the stadium early got to see Bauer's unusual pregame routine. First, he did some stretching with a 7-foot-tall flexible metal wand that shimmies and shakes to loosen his shoulders. Then, he jogged out to the warning track in right-center field and played extreme long toss with a teammate standing near the left-field corner -- probably a 350-foot heave. Another player was stationed in left center to get the return throw back to Bauer.
Chasing Honus: Time is running short to buy raffle tickets for the unopened pack of 1909-era Piedmont cigarettes, some of which contain valuable T206 series baseball cards. The drawing will take place during Monday's season finale. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased on the main concourse during games or at (559) 320-4487.
