  A 51-year-old motorcyclist is dead and his passenger seriously injured after crashing into a vehicle near Mariposa on Monday afternoon.

  The motorcycle driver from North Fork, who has not been identified, was traveling south on Highway 49 around 1:20 p.m. when he approached three vehicles stopped in front of him at Chowchilla Mountain Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

  The first vehicle, driven by a 54-year-old man from Mariposa, was preparing to turn left onto the road when the motorcyclist decided to pass the vehicles by driving over the yellow lines into the northbound lane.
