CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. -- Former Clovis West High standout Michael Weaver needed a playoff to reach the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills.

Weaver made it through Wednesday, and he was the only one of three local golfers to advance into the round of 32 after posting a 2-and-1 victory over Zac Blair of Ogden, Utah.

Former Clovis East standout Bryson Dechambeau was all-square through 18 holes in his first-round match, but Andrew Presley of Fort Worth, Texas, won on the 19th hole. Fellow former Timberwolves standout Derek Ernst lost his first-round match 3-and-1 to Gavin Green of Malaysia.

Up next for Weaver is an 8:30 a.m. tee time against Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Ind.

Bobby Wyatt -- who entered match play as the top seed after tying the tournament record by shooting a 9-under 132 in the two-day, 36-hole qualifying rounds -- also advanced.
