Cooling center locations in central San Joaquin Valley

Hot and hotter is the forecast for the central San Joaquin Valley this week from the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for a high of 106 degrees today, 104 Tuesday and 102 through the rest of the week.

Along with the high temperatures come warnings to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids, never leave children or pets in vehicles and periodically check on children and the elderly.

There are a number of ways to beat the heat in the Valley, including cooling centers in many communities (Area codes 559 unless noted):

FRESNO COUNTY

Clovis

Sierra Vista Mall, Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. when the temperature reaches 105 degrees. Transportation to and from the site will be provided free of charge by Clovis Transit. 324-2770.

Fresno

City activates its cooling centers noon-8 p.m. when the National Weather Service forecasts a temperature of 105 degrees or higher.

There is free bus service to cooling centers. Residents must tell the driver that they are traveling to a cooling center. 621-2489.
