Here are The Bee's Softball First Team and Honorable Mention selections for 2012.
School: Central
Grade: Senior
Position: Outfielder
She's qualified because: Working her way back from offseason knee surgery, Alvara came on strong down the stretch, knocking in 19 runs in her last 13 games, two in Central's 4-0 win over Clovis West for the Central Section Division I title. Alvara finished at .408 with five doubles, a triple, three homers, 10 runs and 20 RBIs while earning All-Tri-River Athletic Conference honors. "She carried us through the playoffs," Grizzlies coach Scott Gorton said. "She just crushed the ball. Her hard work made her into the player she is." Hit .325 in three varsity seasons with 13 doubles, four homers, 28 runs and 57 RBIs. Plans to play for Arizona Western Community College next season.
School: Sanger
Grade: Senior
Position: Shortstop
She's qualified because: Moved into leadoff spot and produced her best overall season, hitting .391 with 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 27 runs and 34 RBIs for County/Metro Athletic Conference runner-up Apaches, earning first-team all-league honors for the second straight season. "She is one of the most dedicated players I've ever coached," Sanger coach Erica Pennington said. "She knows the game. She's always a step ahead and that's really hard to find." Including her freshman season at McQueen-Reno, Bennett is a .339 career hitter with 23 doubles, eight triples, six homers, 62 runs and 90 RBIs. Signed with NCAA Division II Marysville University in St. Louis after a 4.6 GPA at Sanger.
School: Clovis West
Grade: Sophomore
Position: Third base
She's qualified because: Developed into one of the most feared hitters in the Tri-River Athletic Conference during her second varsity season, earning all-league honors after hitting .432 with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 21 RBIs and 28 runs for Central Section Division I runner-up. Also worked to improve her defense and throwing accuracy, making three errors in 99 chances. "She's just a stud as far as hitting the ball," Clovis West co-coach Gary Battles said. "As we got into TRAC play, people didn't even pitch to her often times. And she really came into her own this year defensively." Clark owns a .456 average with 16 doubles, 39 RBIs and 43 runs in two varsity seasons.
School: Central
Grade: Senior
Position: First base
Shes qualified because: All-Tri-River Athletic Conference pick helped power school to its first Central Section softball title with run-scoring single in Grizzlies' 4-0 win over Clovis West in the Division I final, capping a season that saw Embrey hit .426 with six doubles, three triples, three home runs, 18 RBIs and 31 runs. Produced .388 average with 25 doubles, 10 triples, four homers, 85 runs and 72 RBIs over four years. "I think she's probably the best hitter to come through Central in my time," Grizzlies coach Scott Gorton said. "And from what I gather from other coaches, she's maybe the best ever to hit at Central. She came through with a lot of clutch hits for us over her career." Headed to Fresno City College.

She plays the game with such passion." Hit for fifth-best average (.359) and third-most doubles (31) and triples (14) in storied history of Clovis softball. Also had 82 career runs and 80 RBIs.
