He's qualified because: Shoved onto the mound -- foreign soil in his baseball career -- he "saved" the Central Section Division I champions, says coach Chad Thornhill, by going 7-1 with a 1.84 ERA and three saves, in addition to gold-gloving at third base. He struck out 57 in 53 1/3 innings and gave the Knights a chance of advancing to the D-I final by pitching six innings in a 4-3, eight-winning semifinal win over defending champion Buchanan.
