He's qualified because: Completed maybe best two-year boys volleyball run in Central Section history by going 37-6, unbeaten in Tri-River Athletic Conference (10-0), winning a second-straight section title, and finishing 16th-ranked nationally by ESPNHS. This followed a 39-3, Southern California Regional title and No. 2 national ranking in 2011. He's 306-92 with three section titles in 12 years with Bears.

Section or bust: Returning five starters, including Bee co-Players of the Year Jon Ferrari and Tim Moses, there was nothing blurry about Buchanan's mission: "Win our section," Jay says. "If we didn't, it was going to be a disappointment, especially for our seniors."

Drama kings: Bears were typically slow starters, pressing the point in section final against Clovis West, winning 23-25, 23-25, 27-17, 25-21, 15-6 -- their third five-set conquest of the TRAC rivals for the season. "I wish I knew why," Jay says. "It would have saved a lot of time, energy and headaches. The hardest part was keeping these guys motivated because they had been there, done that after having huge success the previous year. But we knew the seniors would find a win, no matter what."
