Rock climbers Hans Florine and Alex Honnold on Sunday set the speed record on El Capitan's Nose route in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 46 seconds.

The previous record, by Sean Leary and Dean Potter from November 2010, was 2 hours, 36 minutes, 45 seconds -- which was just 20 seconds faster than the record set by Florine and Yuji Hirayama in October 2008.

Most parties spend three to five days on the route in Yosemite Valley.

Fresh off the record, Honnold will be in Fresno on Tuesday for a question-and-answer session and to sign posters at 4:30 p.m. at MetalMark Climbing & Fitness at 4042 N. Cedar Ave.

Honnold, recently featured by 60 Minutes and the New York Times, is also known for his free solo on the sheer face of Half Dome. He climbed without a rope or any protective gear.
