It wasn't the conventional road as he played at Edison as a freshman and sophomore, and sat out (per CIF eligibility rules) as a junior after transferring to Memorial, where the incoming Fresno State center's embracing personality and thunderous game (18.0 points, 13.8 rebounds, 5.2 blocks) powered the Panthers to a 23-9 record against state-class competition and the section D-II title.
