Seven drivers were arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and 28 vehicles were impounded during a DUI crackdown Thursday night in southeast Fresno.
The arrests happened as police officers saturated the area with extra officers from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., Sgt. Gary Beer said.
The vehicles were impounded because the drivers were either impaired or did not have a driver's license, police said.
In Clovis, police staged a DUI operation Thursday night and early Friday and arrested one man at a checkpoint at Herndon and Minnewawa avenues.
Spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said officers screened the drivers of 500 vehicles. Two people were arrested on charges of driving with suspended licenses and eight on charges of being unlicensed drivers. Two vehicles were towed.
