Clovis City Council members affirmed the naming of Lee Kraft as the city's fire chief Tuesday night.
Kraft, 55, will start his new job today. He has served as interim chief since the retirement of Chief Rick Bennett in March 2011. Kraft has been deputy chief since 2008.
He was named chief by City Manager Robert Woolley. Under city guidelines, the City Council must affirm the city manager's choice.
Kraft has been a firefighter in Clovis for 28 years after serving as a reserve firefighter for three years.
He becomes the only chief who has served in every position in the Clovis Fire Department.
