GIRLS BASKETBALL

    Top-ranked Hanford, unveiling yet another star to complement two of the Central Section's best players in Bayli McClard and Brooke Johnson, received a career-high 29 points from junior guard Gabby Gomez and coasted to an 85-34 West Yosemite League win at Hanford West. It clinched the seventh straight league title for the Bullpups, who have won 70 consecutive games in the WYL and 92 against section competition. Gunning for a fifth-straight section championship, they're a lock for the Division I top seed Feb. 18.

  • Bullard and Edison tuned up for Friday's first-place showdown at Edison in the County/Metro Athletic Conference as Elbria Wooley scored 20 points in the section ninth-ranked Knights' 72-40 win over Sunnyside and Mariah Sims contributed 15 points to the No. 5 Tigers' 47-35 defeat of Madera. Bullard and Edison are both 6-1 in the CMAC.
  • Miyah Rollins had 18 points and 10 steals, as Hoover closed in on a North Yosemite League title with a 56-18 rout of Roosevelt.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Keonta Vernon had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks as No. 10 Tulare clinched a fourth straight East Yosemite League title with four games to go following a 64-41 win over Monache.
  • Garabed Kalanjian had 18 points and 12 rebounds off the bench to help D-III No. 1 Mt. Whitney clinch its second straight WYL title with a 74-54 win over Lemoore.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Elise Krieghoff scored twice and No. 1 Buchanan beat No. 2 Clovis North 2-0 in a showdown for the Tri-River Athletic Conference title. The Bears (17-2-1, 9-1) staked their claim to the top D- I playoff seed.
  • Clovis West, which upset Buchanan last week, stunned No. 3 Clovis 2-0 in the TRAC behind two Sarah Pope goals. Elsewhere, Mariah Montoya had two goals as No. 5 Central beat Clovis East 4-0.
  • Madera South and McLane will enter the final game tied for first at 8-1 in the NYL. The Stallions beat Fresno 2-0 behind goals by Mariah Garcia and Amali Andaverde and will play at Reedley. The Highlanders, with Justine Alvarez scoring in the 19th minute, beat Roosevelt 1-0 and will host Hoover.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Gustavo Gutierrez scored twice as D-III third-ranked Dinuba completed its third 12-0 run through the Central Sequoia League in four seasons with a 3-1 win over Selma.
