Lee Angelich, a 2008 Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, died Friday at age 91, leaving behind a legacy of boys high school basketball victories and championships.
Mr. Angelich coached Kerman, Porterville and Fresno highs to eight league championships and a combined 255-76 record from 1947-63. His 1949 Kerman team won the CIF Central Section small schools title and he coached Fresno to 48 consecutive victories and four straight North Yosemite League championships in 10 seasons.
In addition, Mr. Angelich guided the Fresno High boys track and field team to the 1957 league championship. He was inducted into the Fresno High Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
Mr. Angelich also helped organize and coach the Libyan national team that competed in the 1961 North African Games. After retiring from teaching and coaching, he was a successful real estate agent.
The son of Serbians Bozo and Bosilka, Mr. Angelich was born in Wilmington before the family moved to the central San Joaquin Valley. He was a lieutenant in the Navy on the USS Rixey in the Pacific, and was awarded the American Theater and Asiatic-Pacific ribbons and the Philippine Liberation ribbon.
