Valley prep sports highlights for Friday, Feb. 3

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tori Moons scored 13 points and Dakota Jacobi 12 as Central Valley Christian -- ranked No. 1 in the Central Section's Division V -- rolled past Mt. Whitney 48-33 in nonleague action.

Bullard, ranked ninth overall in the section, bounced back from its first County/Metro Athletic Conference setback of the season -- a 56-52 defeat at Madera on Wednesday -- by beating Sanger 65-23. Landynn Munster's 13 points led the Knights' balanced attack.

Freshman Desiree Harding scored 20 points as Fresno upset first-place McLane 42-36 in the North Yosemite League.

Casey Stark scored 13 points as Sierra created a tie atop the North Sequoia League with Yosemite by defeating the Badgers 58-53.

Bilma Valdivia and Alicia Estrada both scored 13 points as Fowler held on to beat Caruthers 45-38 in the West Sierra League.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grant Verhoeven had 24 points for No. 7 Central Valley Christian in a 59-50 nonleague win at No. 10 Mt. Whitney. The Cavaliers, No. 1 in the D-IV rankings, added the D-III top-ranked Pioneers to a list of victims this season that includes D-II No. 2 Tulare. Verhoeven also had 16 rebounds and Rein Hakker eight.

Keonta Vernon scored 29 points and William Stallworth added 26 as Tulare remained unbeaten in East Yosemite League play with a 81-61 victory over host Delano. Chris Sterling scored 29 points for the Tigers.

Kokie Bijev scored the final five Clovis North points, including a 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left, as the Broncos knocked off No. 8 Clovis West 58-57 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference. Bijev finished with a game-high 20 points.

Jake Blunt (25 points) and Derek Austrum (24 points) led the way as North Sequoia League co-leading Sierra downed Yosemite 77-45.

BOYS SOCCER

Dylan Rusconi's two goals powered No. 1 Central to a 4-1 victory against No. 9 Clovis North that sent the Grizzlies into sole possession of first at 7-2 in the TRAC. Clovis North is tied for second at 6-3 with No. 3 Buchanan, which got two goals from Ross Krieghoff to beat Clovis 3-1, and No. 7 Clovis West, a 2-0 winner against Clovis East.

Justin Herrera scored three times to lift Mission Oaks to a 5-1 overtime victory against Granite Hills in the East Yosemite League.

Selma got its goals from Anthony Torrez to beat Immanuel 8-1 in the Central Sequoia League.

GIRLS SOCCER

D-V No. 1 Caruthers (22-2), behind Jerrica Babb's three goals, beat Fowler 4-2 to stay unbeaten in the West Sequoia League.

Kathy Fasi, Rebekah Weimer and Morgan Darling all scored as No. 4 Bullard defeated Edison 3-1 in the CMAC.

Senior Jordan Moineau had a hat trick in No. 6 Liberty-Madera Ranchos' 8-1 win over Chowchilla. Her 31 goals this season boost her career total to 119.

Bianka Garcia's hat trick powered Memorial to a 10-1 victory against Sunnyside in the CMAC.
