Jim O'Brien has been named Clovis East's football coach, pending approval from the Clovis Unified school board, a Clovis East source close to the hiring process told The Bee on Sunday.
O'Brien, who went 4-7 at Hoover last season, didn't say he's been offered the job, only that he'll go through a second round of interviews for the position this week. The Timberwolves are seeking a replacement for Tim Murphy, who went 82-39 with two section championships and six Tri-River Athletic Conference titles in 10 years before resigning in November. It will be O'Brien's fourth school in as many years following a four-season stint at Fowler and one-year stops at Edison and Hoover. He is 48-22 in six seasons as a head coach. Given the hire, O'Brien will return to the Tri-River Athletic Conference, where he once assisted Mike Vogt at Buchanan.
