BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Grant Verhoeven's 21 points and 20 rebounds led Central Sequoia League-leading and section No. 7-ranked Central Valley Christian over Coalinga 56-43.
  • No. 9 Edison received scoring from 11 players -- led by Jordan Batts' 14 points -- in a 74-31 County/Metro Athletic Conference win over Sanger.
  • Ahmad Jones led North Yosemite League-leading Hoover with 18 points in a 54-32 win over Reedley.
  • Madera South, with Shaq Moore's 24 points, improved to 18-3 overall with a 67-52 win over Fresno in the NYL.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Alex Culwell scored twice as No. 3 Bullard retained a share of first in the CMAC with a 5-1 win over No. 5 Sanger, which entered in a four-way tie for the league lead.

  • Javier Hernandez had his second straight hat trick as Memorial upset 10th-ranked Madera 3-2, dropping the Coyotes from a tie atop the CMAC.
  • Lorenzo Vidales and Ulises Rodriguez connected on headers in the second half to lead North Sequoia League-leading Kerman past Liberty-Madera Ranchos 3-1.
  • Gustavo Gutierrez's two goals helped D-III No. 2 Dinuba overcome Kingsburg 3-1 in overtime in the CSL.
  • GIRLS SOCCER

    • Mia Soto scored in each half -- raising her season total to 24 -- as Fowler beat Fresno Christian 2-1 in the West Sequoia League.
    • Joanna Valtierra scored goals in each half as East Sierra League-leading and D-VI top-ranked Orange Cove downed Sierra Pacific 3-0.
    • Nayeli Colunga scored her 20th and 21st goals of the year in D-V No. 3 Strathmore's 4-0 East Sequoia League win over Woodlake.
