Both Fresno County management and representatives from the county's largest employee union expressed a willingness to restart labor talks Thursday after meeting privately with a state moderator.

But the parties remained in disagreement about what it will take to go back to the bargaining table.

The county chapter of Service Employee International Union alleges that county managers negotiated in bad faith when they forced a contract on employees in December.

The contract includes pay cuts of 9% or more, which the county has said were necessary to balance the budget.

The union staged a three-day work strike this week to protest the contract.

The California Public Employment Relations Board ordered an informal meeting between the two parties Thursday to try to work out a settlement.

No settlement was reached, and no further meetings were set.
