Greenberry earns All-State honor

Washington High wide receiver Deontay Greenberry was named Wednesday to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team. Bullard running back Demetrius Warren made the second team and Central QB Michael Baker the third team.

Fourth-team selections included Tulare receiver William Stallworth and running back/linebacker Xavier Stephens, Clovis defensive lineman Dakota Gordon and Bullard tight end/defensive end Ian Taubler.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • William Stallworth scored 21 points as Tulare downed crosstown rival Tulare Western 66-45 and extended the Redskins' East Yosemite League win streak to 42 straight games, which dates to the 2008-09 season.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Taylor Esquivel scored 19 points and Sierra limited Liberty-Madera Ranchos to six field goals in a 64-15 win in North Sequoia League play.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Lindsey Dovali and Emma Rogers scored as No. 4 Clovis beat Clovis East 2-0 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference.
  • Tania Lopez scored in overtime as Roosevelt edged Fresno 1-0 in the North Yosemite League.
  • Sanger's Amber Rodriguez scored twice in a 5-0 win over Sunnyside in the County/Metro Athletic Conference.
  • Kimberly Gaona's goal with 10 minutes left lifted Madera by No. 3 Bullard 2-1 in the CMAC.

FOOTBALL

  • Bakersfield and Long Beach Poly, the winningest football programs in state history, have signed a two-year contract. The Drillers, defending Central Section D-I champs, go to Poly next season; the Jackrabbits visit Bakersfield in 2013.
