BOYS BASKETBALL

Aaric Armstead scored 26 of his 33 points in the first half as No. 2 Bullard primed for a County/Metro Athletic Conference showdown Thursday at No. 5 Memorial by winning 85-67 at No. 9 Edison.

Grant Verhoeven contributed 35 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and three blocks as Central Valley Christian -- ranked seventh overall and No. 1 in Division IV -- routed Immanuel 67-35 in the Central Sequoia League.

Austin Brank finished with a game-high 16 points and banked in a 6-footer at the buzzer as Kingsburg edged Selma 49-47 in the CSL.

Will Nelson scored a game-high 39 points and had 10 rebounds to pace D-III top-ranked Mt. Whitney to a 72-54 victory over Redwood in a West Yosemite League game.

Chris Cain went off for 27 points as Washington edged Yosemite 55-52 in North Sequoia League action.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Redwood's Priscilla Wright amassed 19 points to outscore Mt. Whitney by herself in a 66-17 win in the WYL.

Cassidee Angangan, a junior forward, made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch -- finishing with 14 points overall -- and Ashley Bailey scored 20 points as Dinuba remained a game behind Central Valley Christian in the CSL and also prominently in the section D-III picture with a 51-46 win at Exeter.

BOYS SOCCER

Luis Hernandez scored in the 68th minute to give No. 10 Madera a win over No. 3 Bullard in the CMAC.

Daniel Llamas scored a career-best two goals in his second start of the season as No. 7 Sunnyside beat No. 5 Sanger 4-1 in the CMAC. The teams also began the week ranked Nos. 1-2 in D-II.

Marcelo Espinoza scored off a corner kick in overtime, giving D-V No. 2 Riverdale a 4-3 victory over Parlier in the West Sequoia League.

Ulises Rodriguez scored twice in the first 10 minutes as Kerman defeated D-IV top-ranked Chowchilla 2-1 to take sole possession of first place in the NSL.

Alex Ramos scored three goals and upped his total to 27 for the season to lead Avenal to a 5-1 win against D-VI top-ranked Mendota. Avenal entered ranked No. 3 in the division.

Nick Carrillo and Ivan Tinoco each scored to help Clovis defeat Clovis East 2-1 in TRAC play.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mia Soto scored five goals as Fowler beat Dos Palos 5-0.
