Central High's Tiana Maxwell, as polite as she is talented, managed a smile after yet another crushing defeat to Clovis West and gave it up for the Central Section's fourth-ranked Golden Eagles.
"They are the smartest team," the leading scorer in Grizzlies history said Friday night on her home floor after her 24 points hardly made a dent in the 66-36 Tri-River Athletic Conference decision.
Clovis West (13-8, 2-0) is also deep, precise and talented -- a formula that has not only accounted for 21 TRAC titles and 12 section crowns in the past 30 years, but also ownership of the Grizzlies since they went unbeaten in the league in 2005.
Emily Anderson, one of seven Eagles sophomores and playing her second game since missing 15 with a broken knuckle, had 13 points and eight rebounds as they beat Central (13-5, 0-2) for the 14th straight time.
Alexandria Orlich, a four-year veteran and the team's only senior, and sophomore Eryn Piearcy each had 10 points for Clovis West, which has beaten the Grizzlies by an average of 33.8 points in the streak.
