- Three-time state champion Alex Cisneros of Selma is still unbeaten vs. Central Section competition in his four-year career -- but barely -- recording an escape in OT to defeat Kingsburg's Javier Gasca III 3-2 at 138 pounds in a Central Sequoia League match held before a packed gym in Selma. Cisneros and Gasca are ranked 1-2 in the state at 132 pounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
- Section fifth-ranked Edison and No. 10 Bullard marched closer to their County/Metro Athletic Conference showdown on the Knights' court next Wednesday with dominating wins. Brittany Sims scored 24 points as the Tigers rolled past Sunnyside 71-42, and Mahogany May had 19 points in Bullard's 73-26 rout of Sanger.
- Breona Minor had 14 points and No. 9 Clovis downed Clovis East 56-36 in a Tri-River Athletic Conference opener.
- Dawn Alves delivered 29 points and 10 rebounds, and Abbi Thomas 15 points and eight rebounds as Laton -- No. 2 in Division V -- edged McFarland 55-53 in an East Sierra League opener.
