Valley MLK events begin today

Since 1984, the Fresno Rev. Dr. Luther King Jr. Unity Committee has celebrated the Rev. King's legacy. Events run today through Monday. All telephone numbers are 559 area code:

TODAY

Garlanding ceremony: noon-1 p.m., Fresno County Courthouse Park, 435-2212.

Awards reception: 6 p.m., Fresno City Hall, 352-1444.

SATURDAY

Community breakfast: 9 a.m., Clovis Veterans Memorial Building, 453 Hughes Ave., 324-2416, $5 with canned food donation.

All-Faiths and music service: 4-6 p.m., Fresno Community EOC Gym, 1802 E. California Ave., 435-2212.

SUNDAY

Thematic recognition program: 9 a.m., Cecil C. Hinton Center, 2385 S. Fairview Ave., 457-9589.

Candlelight vigil: 5:30 p.m., Center For Spiritual Living, 723 W. Clinton Ave., 352-1444.

MONDAY

March through downtown Fresno: assembling at 9 a.m., march begins at 10 a.m., St. John's Cathedral, 2814 Mariposa Ave., 284-6420.

Commemoration program: following march, approximately 10:45 a.m.-noon, Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 2425 Fresno St., 352-1444.
