  I would like to enrich the kudos that CSU Trustee Pete Mehas and Fresno State President John Welty bestowed on the amazing impact that Carol Chandler has had as a member of the CSU Board of Trustees. Carol was a member of the board of our Institute for Family Business at Fresno State's Craig School of Business.

  Her valuable contributions led to the revitalization of our institute and the celebration of the family firm in the Valley. Besides these contributions, I have often told Bill and Carol Chandler how "rich" they are because they have a wonderful family and two great sons, one of whom I was fortunate enough to have as a graduate student in a leadership class when he was getting his MBA from the Craig School of Business.

  Money does not measure richness, but rather richness is defined by the wealth of emotions, values, beliefs and grace, especially as they are applied to the welfare of our community, something that the Chandler family has demonstrated in an exemplary manner.

  WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Tuesday insisted he will continue promoting expensive high-speed rail programs despite skepticism that is gaining momentum in California and other states.

  The Capitol Hill clash at an occasionally combative House hearing underscored how wrangling will cloud national high-speed rail efforts for the foreseeable future. For states, at the very least, this means continued uncertainty about new federal funding.

  "We will not be dissuaded by the naysayers and the critics," LaHood insisted to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, adding that "transportation has always been bipartisan. There are no Republican and Democratic railroads."
