NCAA All-America heavyweight Ryan Flores, formerly of Buchanan High, needed one period to pin his opponent while leading American of Washington, D.C., to a 26-16 victory against Cal State Bakersfield in an NCAA dual wrestling meet Thursday night at the Clovis North High gym.

Flores, the NCAA runner-up last season at 285 pounds, reminded his hometown crowd that he's as dominant as he was when he was a two-time state high school champion.

Flores pinned Bakersfield's Steven Wood (Lemoore) with 6 seconds left in first period to move to 6-0 as a senior, five via pins. Flores has been ranked No. 1 by InterMat since Nov. 29.

American, ranked No. 10 by InterMat and just outside the NWCA/USA Today Top 25, won six of 10 matches. Bakersfield won at 133, 165, 174 and 184.

Flores, a two-time NCAA qualifier, is 77-18 in his college career, including two years at Columbia.
