The man who told Clovis police he was a carjacking victim but turned out to be a suspect with three other people in a commercial burglary is a Madera County correctional officer.

Patrick Foster, 43, was arrested following the Monday night burglary at Kohl's in the Sierra Vista mall. Lt. John Fisher, operational commander of the Madera County Jail, confirmed Thursday that Foster is on paid administrative leave following the arrest. Fisher said Foster has worked as a correctional officer for three years.

The alleged burglary took place at 8:45 p.m., when Kohl's employees called police to report three people took merchandise and were fleeing in a Chevrolet SUV. Officers boxed in the SUV at Villa and Alamos avenues. Three ran from the vehicle but were soon captured. Police said Foster stayed in the SUV and initially told officers he had been carjacked.
