GIRLS BASKETBALL

Buchanan, behind 11 points from tournament MVP Alexa Sperling, upset Edison -- The Bee's sixth-ranked Central Section team -- 39-38 for the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis Classic championship. The Tigers, who outscored the unranked Bears 23-18 in the second half before coming up a point short, received 15 points from all-tournament selection Brittany Sims.

Taylor Errotabere had 20 points and 18 rebounds as Riverdale beat Sierra Pacific 54-38.

Shandon Ledbetter scored 18 points and Carly Bertao 17 as Immanuel opened Central Sequoia League play with a 54-41 win over Exeter.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Khushbir Thind's 18 points powered Caruthers to a 54-48 win over Dos Palos and into the championship game of the Tranquillity Tournament. The hosts also reached the final as Jessie Soto scored 25 points in the Tigers' 66-49 win over Laton.

T.J. Viney scored 20 points to lead three Edison players in double figures and the Tigers overcame a 31-point effort by Dashown Fletcher in a 77-58 win over defending section Division IV champ Washington.

Keonta Vernon scored 21 points as Tulare -- ranked No. 10 by The Bee -- opened East Yosemite League play by defeating Cesar Chavez 72-44.

Bullard, top ranked in the section, cruised past Hoover 81-44 behind Aaric Armstead's 27 points.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hannah Coyle scored three goals as Buchanan beat Sunnyside 8-0.

Jerrica Babb scored five goals as Caruthers improved to 13-2 with a 5-1 victory over Orange Cove.

Jordan Patterson's goal was the difference as Clovis edged defending Division I champion Bullard 1-0.
