BOYS BASKETBALL

  • El Diamante will play for its first Polly Wilhelmsen Invitational title tonight after getting 26 points from Cameron Peck in a 59-44 semifinal win over Lemoore. The Miners will face Mt. Whitney, which beat Mission Oaks 66-51 behind Will Nelson's 25 points. The Pioneers haven't won the Polly in 21 years. Tipoff is at 7:45 p.m. at Mt. Whitney.
  • Xavier Jones' 14 points paced Dinuba to a 53-44 win over Orosi for the Woodlake Tournament title.
  • Jovante Packard and Daniel Johnson scored 16 points apiece to lead Hoover over Laguna Creek 58-50 and into the championship game of the Whitney Winter Classic in Rocklin.
  • Central Valley Christian plays Clovis East today for the consolation title of the Modesto Christian tournament after Grant Verhoeven's 20 points and 18 rebounds led a 74-67 win over University-San Francisco.
  • All-tournament selection Charlie Thompson had 22 points as Clovis West beat Bishop Diego 68-46 for third place at the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Tournament MVP Tanya Valdez scored 13 points as Redwood defeated Lemoore 57-46 for the Tulare Mid-winter Showcase title.

WRESTLING

  • Nationally No. 6-ranked Clovis is part of the 32-team field -- including 13 others ranked in the InterMat Fab 50 -- at The Clash X in Rochester, Minn. The Cougars -- led by nationally ranked wrestlers in Daniel Gaytan (No. 19 at 126), Zach Nevills (No. 4 at 170) and Nick Nevills (No. 4 at 285) -- open the dual meet tourney today against Anoka (Minn.).
