Two Fresno residents killed in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 152 near San Luis Reservoir have been identified by the Merced County Coroner's Office as Edward Arshag Kalpakian, 84, and Anahid Kalpakian, 76.

The crash was reported at 4:19 p.m. about five miles east of the Santa Clara County border, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Kalpakians were riding in a car driven by Mikael Mikaelian, 70, of Clovis. His 2006 Toyota Camry was traveling at about 65 mph eastbound when it drifted on a right-hand curve and crossed the median into oncoming westbound traffic, CHP officials said.

The Toyota hit a Ford F-250 pickup driven by Theodore Haynish, 52, of Hollister.

Mikaelian suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Haynish suffered minor injuries.

The Kalpakians were killed instantly, CHP spokesman Officer Jesse Lopez said. Edward Kalpakian was seated in the front passenger seat, and Anahid Kalpakian was seated in the back.

DUI is not considered to be a factor in the crash, Lopez said. All four people involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts.
