He's qualified because: Despite missing considerable early-season training because of foot surgery and a strained calf, the repeat Bee All-Star still strode to the top of his game in the final month on the 3.1-mile course at Woodward Park, placing second in the Tri-River Athletic Conference meet (15:37), second in the Central Section Division I final (15:40) and 10th in the CIF State D-I Championship (15:27). His state meet time was best among the non-seniors that day in D-I, third best for a non-senior across all five divisions and No. 4 in the section overall for the season. Then, at the Footlocker West Regionals on the 5K course at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, he finished 12th among 217 runners in 16:02.
