BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Defending Central Section Division I champion Bullard stormed into today's final of the Holiday Invitational Tournament at Hoover with an 84-40 romp over Clovis East behind 25 points from Aaric Armstead and 19 from Brad Thakham. The Knights meet Central in the 8 p.m. final after Murshid Randle scored 29 points as the Grizzlies pulled away in the second half for a 77-59 victory over Vallejo in the other semifinal.
  • Keonta Vernon's 25 points sent Tulare past Lindsay 78-47, while Will Nelson's 21 points helped Mt. Whitney hold off Hanford 47-44 at the Tulare Tournament.
  • Austin Bray recorded his sixth straight double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds in Kingsburg's 62-45 nonleague win over Sanger.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Bayli McClard scored 27 points to lead Hanford to its second straight win at the Madera Tournament, 68-20 over Fresno. Bullard, meanwhile, beat Fresno 61-15 behind Elbria Wooley's 10 points.
  • Portia Neale scored 14 points, but Clovis West's fourth-quarter rally came up short in a 46-44 loss to Horizon at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Alex Yokley's penalty-kick goal in the second half was the difference as Bullard topped Clovis North 3-2.
  • Luis Hernandez and Sergio Perez scored goals as Madera beat city rival Madera South 2-0.

FOOTBALL

Clovis North will move forward with Cory Hall as coach, removing the interim tag after the former Fresno State and NFL defensive back led the Broncos to their first Central Section title two weeks ago. Hall, who was promoted from junior varsity head coach in March after program-launching coach Tim Simons had heart surgery, went 9-3 last season capped by a 28-19 win over Garces in the Division II final. "I feel honored and privileged to be put in position to lead a football program K-12," Hall said. "I'm committed to the success of these kids both academically and athletically. I look forward to getting back to work and building on what we established in the 2011 season."
