BOYS BASKETBALL

Chris Carter's 14 points paced five Clovis East players with at least eight as the balanced scoring offset Ahmad Jones' 28 points during the Timberwolves' 70-66 victory against Hoover at the Holiday Invitational Tournament. Clovis East advances to the semifinals, where it will meet Bullard, an 84-44 winner over Clovis behind Aaric Armstead's 25 points. The other semifinal features Central, which got 15 points from Murshid Randle in a 64-53 win over Edison, against Vallejo.

Will Nelson recorded his eighth double-double in nine games with 33 points and 10 rebounds in Mt. Whitney's 77-52 win against Delano at the Tulare Holiday Classic. William Stallworth, meanwhile, had 19 points as tournament co-host Tulare rolled past Hanford 66-33.

Austin Bray sank four 3-pointers en route to 24 points to lead Kingsburg over McLane 75-62 at the Madera South Classic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bailey McClard scored 18 points as defending Central Section Division I champion Hanford opened the Madera Tournament with a 69-7 win against Kingsburg.

BOYS SOCCER

Anthony Asencio's 11th-minute goal was the difference as defending Division III champion Fresno downed Clovis East 1-0.

FOOTBALL

Washington receiver/defensive back Deontay Greenberry is one of five finalists for Cal-Hi Sports' State Player of the Year. Greenberry also was selected to Sports Illustrated's All-America second-team as a receiver. Read more about it at fresnobeehive.com/sportsbuzz
