Tower Cafe is open, serving traditional sandwiches and a late-night menu that includes tater tots covered in chili and cheese.
The cafe opened late last month at 809 E. Olive Ave., in the former Tower Dogs space. New owner Conor Milligan knocked out a wall to expand the seating area.
The menu features hot and cold sandwiches, including burgers. But these aren't ordinary deli-style sandwiches, Milligan said.
The meat is shipped in daily, slow marinated, slow cooked and never frozen, he said. Sandwiches include tri-tip, pulled pork, Philly cheesesteak tri-tip and French dip.
Milligan runs vegetables and spices through a food processor and kneads them into the hamburger meat for flavor.
Tower Cafe also has a late-night menu that includes the tater tot dish, along with chili cheese fries, tacos and hot dogs.
The business will stay open late to serve Tower customers. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. nightly on Sunday through Wednesday, and until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday to accommodate late-night partiers.
Fitness fix
Felix Gonzalez wants you to get fit. That's why he and his business partners created GN2 Fitness, otherwise known as "Get in 2 Fitness."
The new fitness center at 2686 N. Clovis Ave. is designed for anyone who cares about becoming healthier.
"We don't cater to any specific demographic, whether it's athletes or body builders," said Gonzalez, one of the personal trainers and owners. "We wanted to create a facility that provides a level of fitness for anyone. Our goal is to get you to your end result."
The fitness center provides several different classes, including boot camp-style training for beginners and advanced students, cardio kickboxing, karate, boxing and sport-specific athlete training.
One class that has become popular is the Dirty 30 lunch break workout that provides a rigorous workout capable of burning 200 to 500 calories in 30 minutes.
"The harder you work, the more you burn," Gonzalez said.
The center's trainers provide one-on-one instruction or group training with a few friends, family or co-workers. Gonzalez said they will also go to a workplace as long as it is within 30 miles.

A sporting start
A new Big 5 Sporting Goods store is open in Oakhurst, bringing to 14 the number of stores the El Segundo-based chain has in Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties.
Store manager Jose Rodriguez said the store opened two days before Thanksgiving in a new building on Highway 49, about a quarter mile northwest of Highway 41.
The store has about 10,000 square feet of floor space and employs about 20 full- and part-time workers, Rodriguez said.
Big 5 has more than 400 stores in 12 Western states. Its new Oakhurst store carries shoes, apparel and equipment for a wide range of sports. It joins a lineup of smaller specialty sports stores in the mountain community, including gun, bicycle, hiking and snowboard shops.
