  Your April 17 political cartoon by Clay Bennett of the Chattanooga Times Free Press shows a fellow holding his morning paper with the headline "POLLEN SEASON WORST EVER!" A sub-headline declares "GOP BLAMES OBAMA."

  Even funnier and more appropriate would have been a headline that stated: "OBAMA BLAMES BUSH!"

  As the leader of 1,200 Neighborhood Watch groups (approximately 20,000 members), I am very disturbed about the editorial cartoon on Wednesday's Other Opinions page in The Bee depicting the "Neighborhood Watch" program as a subsidiary of the "Well-Regulated" Militia.

  We are not. Erroneously branding our program in an editorial cartoon because of the actions of one individual, who may not be a registered Neighborhood Watch member, is irresponsible.

  Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program where members become the eyes and ears for law enforcement and report suspicious activity. In addition, we encourage neighbors to get to know each other and implement crime prevention techniques to enhance home security.

  The Opinion page cartoon on March 30 propagates the myth that Supreme Court justices get free health care. Like all federal employees, the justices -- as well as members of Congress -- are under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program as well as Medicare (when eligible), and pay premiums depending on which insurance company they choose (depending on your state, a small selection of HMOs and fee-for-service programs such as Kaiser, Blue Shield and Aetna).

  They have the same benefits as all non-military federal workers. Yes, the government pays a portion of the premium, but so do many large companies as part of their overall employee benefits package. Also, Medicare taxes are deducted from each paycheck. Yes, this is a nice benefit to have, but it is certainly not free.
