A group of Fresno business leaders gathered Tuesday to restate their support of California's plans for a high-speed train system and starting construction next year in the central San Joaquin Valley.
Representatives of the Fresno Chamber of Commerce, the Fresno Metro Black Chamber, the Hispanic chambers from the city and Fresno County, and the Fresno Economic Development Corporation said the proposed 520-mile train line would provide the Valley with much-needed economic connections to San Francisco and Los Angeles, as well as 100,000 construction jobs that backers say would be generated during the building of the project in the Valley.
Officials said their organizations would take their message to Merced when the California High-Speed Rail Authority's board meets there Dec. 13.
