Bullard 42, Liberty-Bakersfield 21
Another huge night for Demetrius Warren helped give Bullard High the rematch the Knights so desperately wanted.
Demetrius Warren rushed 35 times for 282 yards and two touchdowns as Bullard downed Liberty-Bakersfield 42-21 on Friday night in a Central Section Division I football quarterfinal at Sunnyside High.
The third-seeded Knights (9-2) earned a rematch against County/Metro Athletic Conference rival Edison (10-1) in next week's semifinals. Edison defeated Bullard 52-50 in one of the year's most thrilling regular-season games, overcoming an early 21-0 deficit.
Dejonte Oneal opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for the Knights, who led 21-14 at halftime.
Bullard kicker Shawn Kuehter booted six extra points to set the school's single-season record with 54.
Liberty (8-3) was the sixth seed.
Division II
Clovis North 49, Lemoore 7
Trenton Barnes rushed for 113 yards and Bryan Parmer added 99 for the third-seeded Broncos, who will face Memorial in the semifinals.
Clovis North (7-3) scored 49 straight points after sixth-seeded Lemoore (8-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Deandre Daise's 51-yard touchdown run.
Broncos quarterback Christian Rossi completed 13 of 22 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns.
Memorial 21, Frontier 17
Chris Brown's 8-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds remaining lifted the No. 2 seeded Panthers (8-3) over the No. 7 Titans and into next week's semifinals against Clovis North.
Garces 55, Redwood 35
Nick Vehlewald ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns as the top-seeded Rams advanced to face Tehachapi.
Garces (10-1) took command in the third quarter by scoring two unanswered touchdowns.
Jordan Morrison had 115 receiving yards and 97 rushing for Redwood (6-6) and scored three touchdowns.
Tehachapi 35, Sunnyside 28
Marcus Curiel ran for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from 44 yards in the third quarter, to power the No. 4 Warriors (10-1) into the semifinals against Garces.
No. 5 Sunnyside (6-5) got 194 rushing yards from Errian Wingfield, including touchdown runs of 59 and 54 yards. The Wildcats led 14-0 after the first quarter before Tehachapi tallied three straight touchdowns to pull even 21-21 at halftime.
Division III
Madera South 28, Foothill 21
Marcus McCoy's 4-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes remaining lifted Madera South High to a 28-21 victory over visiting Foothill on Friday night in the Central Section Division III football quarterfinals.
Foothill – an 11th seed seeking a big upset – had a chance to tie the score in the final seconds, but Ryan Rangle's pass to the end zone was batted down. The third-seeded Stallions (11-1) will visit No. 2 Ridgeview in next week's semifinals.
Madera South's Donald Caballero caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Travis Middleton in the second quarter. Caballero's second touchdown, a 3-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter, put the Stallions ahead 21-14.
Kingsburg 40, Hanford 21
Austin Bray and Kyler Christopher ran for two touchdowns apiece as the No. 5 Vikings reached the semifinals to play against top-seeded Dinuba.
Brandon Steele led Kingsburg (10-2) with 63 rushing yards.
Brayden Sanchez had 61 rushing yards and two scores for fourth-seeded Hanford (9-3), which trailed 21-7 at halftime.
Bray completed 14 of 23 passes for 155 yards but was held without a touchdown pass.
Division IV
Washington 49, Bakersfield Christian 0
Deontay Greenberry caught 10 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns as the top-seeded Panthers rolled into the semis against Coalinga.
