Redwood 42, Sanger 41
The Central Section playoffs opened with a thriller in Visalia that took two overtimes to decide.
Ninth-seeded Redwood tied it late in regulation and beat No. 9 Sanger 42-41 in a Division II opener on Jordan Morrison's 2-point conversion run in the second extra period Friday night at Mineral King Bowl.
Raul Alvarez's 20-yard scoring pass to Malik Harrison sent the game into the first overtime 28-28.
The Rangers took possession first in OT and scored on Morrison's 2-yard run. The Apaches knotted it on Chris Santos' 3-yard burst.
Sanger took the lead in the second OT when Johnny Pinedo broke a 25-yard run for a touchdown and Steven Villagomez kicked the extra point.
Redwood didn't take long to score on Raul Alvarez's 14-yard pass to Manuel Rubalcaba. Coach Shaun Ball went for broke for a 2-point conversion and was rewarded when Morrison busted into the end zone.
Sanger's Santos finished with four rushing touchdowns.
Lemoore 49, Reedley 10
Deandre Daise rushed 16 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns to pace the No. 6 Tigers to the home rout of the No. 11 Pirates.
Michael Brown chipped in with five carries for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 64-yarder. That was followed by Austin Trevino's interception return for a score that sparked a 21-point third quarter.
Frontier 42, Hoover 12
The seventh-seeded Titans' ground game was too much for the No. 10 Patriots' passing attack.
Triton Douglas ran 13 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns and James Hosey added 118 yards on 10 carries and another score.
Hoover's Nick Peterson went out with a big night. He completed 23 of 44 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. But the Titans picked him off four times.
Division III
Foothill 13, Delano 10
The No. 11 Trojans shocked the No. 6 Tigers in double overtime, as Ricky Evaro scored from 4 yards out for the winner.
In a defensive struggle, the teams battled to a 7-7 draw in regulation. Both teams failed to score in the first overtime, then Delano moved ahead on David Ibarra's 32-yard field goal in the second extra period.
Needing a score to tie or win, Frontier pulled off the upset when Evaro found daylight and the end zone.
Evaro rushed 25 times for 126 yards. Delano's Zachary Perigo countered with 35 carries for 148 yards and an 11-yard scoring run.
Kingsburg 39, South 0
The No. 5 Vikings, after a slow start, busted it open at home with a 26-point second quarter, keyed by Roman Rosales' 68-yard interception return against the 12th seed.
Jake Rouch opened the scoring with a 2-yard run then, after Rosales' pick-6, Brandon Steele made it 20-0 with a 4-yard burst. Austin Bray capped the run with a 13-yard scoring pass to Zach Bethel.
Steele, who rushed 12 times for 57 yards, added a 3-yard touchdown run and Bray found Trevor Price with a 12-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter.
Madera South 41, Yosemite 0
The No. 3 Stallions beat the No. 14 Badgers with their fourth shutout of the season and have allowed just 88 points total.
The North Yosemite League champion got two touchdowns apiece from Donald Campbell and Ranferi Pineda.
Mt. Whitney 59, Golden Valley 28
Larry Jenkins' 3-yard score on a blocked punt set off a Pioneers' stampede to a 44-16 lead at the half to decide this one early.
The No. 8 Pioneers won it on the ground and through the air. Tucker Mendonca passed for 204 yards and four touchdowns, and Kyle McAlister rushed 13 times for 192 yards and a pair of scores against the No. 9 Bulldogs.
