Sanger 34, Hoover 28
Chris Santos ran for three touchdowns – including an 11-yard burst in the fourth quarter for the clincher – as Sanger High held off Hoover 34-28 in the season opener for both teams at Tom Flores Stadium on Friday night.

Hoover's Nick Peterson passed for three touchdowns. He found Silas Jones on a 50-yard play, Kaylan White for 42 yards and Travis Patton on a 35-yard score.

Hoover – making its debut under coach Jim O'Brien, who replaced Pat Plummer – had the final possession at their own 31 and went four-and-out.

Memorial 49, Yosemite 0: Nic Kinder got the 13th-ranked Panthers rolling with touchdown passes of 33 yards to Jordan Stallworth and 20 yards to Michael Mejia before they turned to Chris Brown to finish off a Friday victory over the Badgers.

Brown scored on runs of 15, 5 and 7 yards to extend a 14-point Memorial lead to a 35-0 cushion. Brown finished with 149 yards on 15 carries.

Kinder, in his first varsity start, completed 9 of 13 passes for 182 yards.

Tulare 81, Golden West 14: Oscar Reyes passed for 395 yards and six touchdowns -- three apiece to Alex Espinoza and William Stallworth -- to lead the ninth-ranked Redskins past the Trailblazers in the debut of Golden West coach Paul Preheim.

Orosi 20, Parlier 7: Sophomore Daniel Ortiz threw for three touchdowns, two to wide receiver Martin Gonzalez and another to tight end Brandon Gonzales, as the Cardinals built a 20-0 lead and beat the Panthers. Orosi forced six turnovers, five of them interceptions.

Firebaugh 24, Fowler 12: Carlos Ramos rushed for 140 yards on 25 carries and scored three times for the visiting Eagles in their season opener.

Markus Espinoza passed for 173 yards and a score as Firebaugh built a 21-0 lead in the second quarter against the Redcats (0-2).

Chowchilla 49, Central Valley Christian 28: DeVaughn Gaines helped the Redskins pull away from the Cavaliers in the fourth quarter, tossing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Sean Kinsley and returning an interception 40 yards for a score.

Gaines also scored on a 7-yard run as Chowchilla outscored CVC 21-7 in the second half.

Laton 38, Fresno Christian 0: Sergio Arciga rushed for 344 yards and four touchdowns as the Mustangs rolled over the Eagles. Eduardo Perez led Laton's defensive effort with three interceptions.

Exeter 21, Woodlake 3: Joey Kunkel rushed for 120 yards, including touchdowns of 33 and 29 yards, to help the Monarchs defeat their longtime rivals for the ninth straight time.

Granite Bay 42, Clovis East 3: The Sacramento Bee's fourth-ranked team from the Sac-Joaquin Section received three first-half touchdown passes from Brendan Keeney while dropping the Central Section No. 16 Timberwolves to 0-2.

Farmersville 30, Strathmore 27: Sophomore Mario Vasquez kicked a 17-yard field goal with 6 seconds left to lift the Aztecs over the Spartans, who entered top-ranked in D-VI.

Freshman quarterback Sam Metcalf, who passed for 376 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity game, drove Farmersville 53 yards in 1 minute, 24 seconds to set up the winning score, coming up with key completions of 19 and 9 yards to Anthony Azevedo.

Strathmore tied the score 27-27 with 3:32 to play on a 17-yard run (and 2-point conversion run) by Juan Medrano, who rushed for 178 yards on 28 carries.

Del Oro-Loomis 52, Clovis West 18

The defending Central Section Division I champion Eagles dropped to 0-2 as host Del Oro-Loomis jumped out to a 14-point lead and never looked back.
